The FDA passed a regulation in 2013 mandating the identification of medical devices using a UDI labeling system. Device manufacturers and hospitals are now realizing the benefits emerging from this mandate in terms of patient safety, clinical outcomes, operational efficiencies, cost savings and revenue capture.
